The Greek Orthodox Church in Rotterdam was established in 1957, adding to the city’s rich tapestry of foreign places of worship. Designed to cater to the spiritual needs of the growing Greek community and the numerous Greek sailors frequenting the port, the church features a Byzantine architectural style. This project was a collaborative effort between Greek and Dutch architects, with substantial support from the Greek ambassador and local Greek organizations.
The fundraising campaign for the church began shortly after World War II, spearheaded by the Association of Greeks in the Netherlands. Contributions flowed in from Greek shipowners and a unique initiative where every Greek ship visiting Rotterdam donated towards the construction.

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
With humility and gratitude, we reach out to you, our cherished community, seeking your generous support for the sacred mission of our beloved parish. Your contributions are the cornerstone upon which we build our church, a sanctuary where the divine grace of the Eastern Orthodox tradition illuminates the lives of all who seek solace within its walls. Your donations enable us to continue our spiritual outreach, nurturing the souls of both our faithful congregation and the inquisitive Dutch souls eager to embrace Orthodoxy. As we endeavor to spread the word of God, rooted in the wisdom of patristic texts and academic sources, your support becomes a beacon of hope, guiding others towards the embrace of faith. Let us join hands in this sacred endeavor, ensuring that our church remains a bastion of faith, love, and compassion in Rotterdam.
In Christ’s love and grace,
Father Ioannis Psomas

Dr. Petre Maican, Orthodox theologian, PhD, and author based in Brussels, is devoted to bridging theology and disability. His work confronts a pressing question: how can Orthodox communities truly welcome people with disabilities, autism, mental illness, and neurodiversity?
This mission is sustained through his Patreon, where supporters receive monthly theological reflections, ministry updates, extended essays, and early access to resources—all while joining a community committed to building a more welcoming Church.
Dr. Maican’s goal is to reach 50 patrons, enabling him to dedicate himself fully to this work.
