Sunday of Saint John Climacus – March 30, 2025

On Sunday, March 30, the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicolas in Rotterdam was filled with the spirit of unity and joy, as clergy and faithful from all canonical Orthodox Patriarchates in the Netherlands came together for the annual Inter-Orthodox Divine Liturgy. This cherished event, held every year on the 4th Sunday of the Great Lent, marks our common witness to the faith and communion of the Orthodox Church.

The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Eminence Athenagoras, Archbishop of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxemburg, who led us in prayer and thanksgiving for the gift of unity in Christ. Concelebrating with him were priests from the Patriarchates of Constantinople, Antioch, Serbia, and Romania. Their presence, along with the participation of multiple choirs representing the rich musical traditions of the Orthodox world, offered a vibrant expression of our shared faith.

We were especially honored by the presence of the Ambassadors of Cyprus and Greece, whose attendance highlighted the cultural and spiritual ties that unite Orthodox communities throughout the world.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a festive reception was held in the Dijkhove Hall, where clergy and faithful gathered in fellowship, sharing in the joy of this annual celebration of pan-Orthodox unity.

We give thanks to God for the gift of this day and for the enduring unity of His Holy Orthodox Church. May our witness to this unity continue to shine brightly in the heart of the Netherlands.
