Paint & Create Together Rediscover the Beauty of Orthodox Tradition.
A meaningful activity for all generations.
Discover the Collection“In the beginning, man is drawn to God by the gift of grace, and once he has been drawn, a long period of trial begins. Man’s freedom and his trust in God are tested, and tested “hard.”
At first, requests to God, small and large, even barely expressed supplications, are usually fulfilled quickly and miraculously by God.
But when the period of trial comes, everything changes, and it is as if the heavens are closed and deaf to all prayers.
For the devout Christian, everything in life becomes difficult. People’s behavior towards them worsens, they cease to appreciate what they tolerate in others, they do not forgive them, their work is almost always paid below the legal minimum, and their body is easily affected by illness. Nature, people, everything turns against him.
Although his natural gifts are no less than those of others, he finds no favorable conditions in which to use them. Moreover, he endures many attacks from demonic forces, culminating in the unbearable sorrow of divine abandonment.
Then his passion reaches its peak, because the whole man is affected at all levels of his existence.
Does God abandon man? Is that possible?
And yet, in place of the experience of God’s closeness, the soul is filled with the feeling that He is infinitely, inaccessibly far away, beyond the starry worlds, and all invocations to Him are lost, helpless in the vastness of cosmic space. The soul intensifies its inner cry to Him, but still sees neither help nor attention. Everything then becomes burdensome.
Everything is achieved with disproportionate effort. Life is filled with toil and stirs within man the feeling that the curse and wrath of God weigh heavily upon him.
But when these trials are over, he will see how God’s wonderful providence carefully guarded him in all aspects of his life!
A thousand years of experience, passed down from generation to generation, tells us that when God sees the faith of the soul of the fighter for Him, as He saw the faith of Job, then He leads him to depths and heights that are inaccessible to others.
The more complete and stronger a person’s faith and trust in God is, the greater will be the measure of the trial and the fullness of the experience, which can reach a great degree.
Then it becomes obvious how he has reached the limits that man cannot exceed.”

Dr. Petre Maican, Orthodox theologian, PhD, and author based in Brussels, is devoted to bridging theology and disability. His work confronts a pressing question: how can Orthodox communities truly welcome people with disabilities, autism, mental illness, and neurodiversity?
This mission is sustained through his Patreon, where supporters receive monthly theological reflections, ministry updates, extended essays, and early access to resources—all while joining a community committed to building a more welcoming Church.
Dr. Maican’s goal is to reach 50 patrons, enabling him to dedicate himself fully to this work.
